Welcome to cuffing…I mean, Libra season. Please note, while there are absolutely no coincidences in the realm of astrology, simply knowing that the sun enters this Venus-ruled sign during the autumnal equinox is the only proof you’ll ever need to verify its validity. Fall is, after all, the “most charming” season of the year and well…it’s safe to say, its undeniable appeal goes far beyond pumpkin spice. However, before we dive into what this mysterious season has in store for your love life, here’s the 411 on the autumnal equinox. The first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and Mother Nature’s season of the harvest, the energy of this season is symbolic of celebration, gratitude, and the blessings in our life. Although, wherever you’re located in the world, this seasonal shift is presenting you with an opportunity to take a step back and check-in with yourself. What are you grateful for? What did you learn this past season? The seeds you planted since the beginning of 2021 are finally starting to come to fruition.

It’s no secret that the universe can do no wrong, but truth be told, the same goes for the divine order of the zodiac. Look at it this way: after reuniting with your inner child and discovering your passion(s) all throughout Leo season, Virgo season taught you how to tap into your practical mind, in order to create a system and/or method where you can put these passion projects in motion for the greater good. Having said that, your individuality and sense of self reaches a phase of completion once Libra season arrives, which is precisely when we begin longing for a special someone to share these unique parts of ourselves with. This may sound cheesy, but it is indeed a full circle moment. So whether you’re casually bonding over mutual interests, or perhaps feeling smitten by the fall foliage, don’t hesitate to share your bliss. Some say summer is the best season to fall in love, but I dare to say, once the temperature drops…well, you can guess what happens next.

Libra is a cardinal sign as it marks the beginning of a season, similar to Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn. Also known as the “third quadrant” through one’s journey through the zodiac, the season of the scales opens the front door to the second half of the zodiac wheel, which is where we are given the room to expand our awareness towards others, outside of ourselves. If you’ve ever wondered why the world can’t seem to get enough of your Libra acquaintance, best friend, significant other, and/or family member, now you know.

Despite being ruled by the irresistible planet of love, Libra never ceases to bring harmony to their surroundings, because even their mere presence can decorate a room on its own, but I digress. In astrology, the sun represents our physical identity and our soul purpose; therefore, when the sun transits through this Venus-ruled sign, the collective’s focus immediately shifts to discovering that sense of balance and harmony, both within and all around us. The energy of this astrological season teaches us how to meet someone else half-way.

An extreme series of highs and lows, Venus in Scorpio’s love language can go from “til’ death do us part” to “you’re dead to me” in a matter of seconds.

Considering the other astrological energies at play is a must, the ability to compromise and put ourselves in another person’s shoes is incredibly prominent during this time. Remember, there’s always a light and dark, and the shadow of Libra can be equally indifferent as it is non-confrontational. And although keeping the peace is always a plus, we are also more likely to disregard our desires and/or “side of the story” for the sake of another. This, of course, reflects onto our personal and professional partnerships, so it’s important to use our “Libra season hall pass” wisely. Moreover, it’s important to consider Venus’ transits and aspects, as it governs the energy of this celestial season. As you may know, Venus has been swimming through the depths of mystifying Scorpio since Sept. 10, where it will remain until Oct. 7. Scorpio is a fixed water sign; it is deeply intuitive, passionate, and transformative. There’s nothing subtle about this Pluto-ruled sign; hence Venus in Scorpio adds a layer of depth and intensity to relationship dynamics.

Although, it’s not just the sun transiting through this Venus-ruled sign; both Mercury (communication) and Mars (carnal desires) are currently igniting the sign of the scales, which means the “Venus in Scorpio” aesthetic is taking the reins until the planet of love enters Sagittarius on Oct. 7. So what does this mean, exactly? For starters, expressing our desires for affection can be a bit challenging, as the essence of this fixed water sign tends to be secretive, penetrating, and even quite intimidating at times. An extreme series of highs and lows, Venus in Scorpio’s love language can go from “til’ death do us part” to “you’re dead to me” in a matter of seconds, but by that same token, there is a rare beauty in the darkness. Similar to the forbidden love affair of Romeo and Juliet, Venus in Scorpio prefers to indulge in taboo-like relationships and vices. There could also be underlying feelings of possessiveness, and/or the desire to merge with a lover’s mind, body, and soul during this time… but there’s a fine line between love and hate.

Mercury—the planet of communication, thought process, and general exchanges—will station retrograde in Libra so fasten your seatbelts, and prepare to face your toxic ex.

FYI: Mercury—the planet of communication, thought process, and general exchanges—will station retrograde in Libra on Sept. 27 so fasten your seatbelts, and prepare to face your toxic ex. Mercury retrograde is, after all, notorious for its “blasts for the past,” let alone when transiting through a relationship-driven sign. So in addition to the Mercury retrograde basics—i.e. reflecting, reviewing, and revisiting things—we’re in for an interesting season.

On a brighter note, Mercury retrograde can be quite productive, but only if you’re consciously harnessing its energy for the better. Warning: It’s one thing to get your flirt on, and another to jump into a relationship headfirst without considering the pros and cons. By all means, take your sweet time getting to know your love interest. After the new moon in Libra on Oct. 6, Venus will make its debut in the exotic sign of Sagittarius which, in turn, presents us with a spontaneous and optimistic outlook on romance, but even then, we’re not in the clear until Mercury goes direct on Oct. 18. In the meantime, consider this a passion-filled journey of self-discovery.
